High Gas Prices – Here to Stay

Container of Gasoline

A curious question. I have heard so many theory’s on where the blame is for rising gas prices. Yes, hopefully we all understand that gasoline prices rise as oil prices rise, but who do people think are to blame for these rising prices?

The gas prices were crazy in 2008. They stay high and it’s hard for a poor guy to servive. Why is this.

I used to blame everything on Bush…But he’s long gone now.

Supply & Demand – the more in demand, the greater the price, simple as that…. No matter how much some people wanna blame Bush, it’s CHINA’s Fault!

  • phenglai:

I agree with uilbas. Supply and demand is what is driving the market along with maybe a little too much hedging by traders.

How to fix it is another topic. We need more domestic drilling and more incentives for companies toproduce renewable energy. Windfall taxes on oils companies is not the solutions. If people think it is, I would advise them check the holding in their 401k and see how much oil is in there. Tax the oil companies and your 401k is likely to shrink. Oil is an emotional topic and with all topics like this, you have to step back and take the emotion out to solve it.

no…it is natures fault…without hurricane katrina, oil companies in texas wouldn’t have been destroyed and we could have had gas from the u.s. and not from foreign countries…but instead we are spending trillions of dollars in iraq to fight this stupid war because bush cant find an escape plan…he thought why not take the oil from there…so because he’s spending all the money…he’s tryin to make back the money from the citizens he’s exploiting

its not just natures fault…half the fault belongs to the worst president we’ve ever had…George Bush

  • phenglai:

OK, again you have to take the emotion out. You are letting your thoughts about the current president cloud your judgement.

First, Oil companies where not destroyed. The last I checked, Texas was still the center of oil in the US and no one has gone under.

Second, Hurricane Katrina has nothing to do with the price of gas as it is today. Gas has been steadily increasing, as has oil, for several years. Katrina made a small dent in production for a several months but that has been restored. Based on your logic, gas shold almost be unaffordable. We have hurricanes year after year and they come through the gulf. I dont remember hurricane andrew “destroying” the oil companies.

The war in Iraq is about fighting terrorism and yes, we need to be as it is our best interest to be where the oil is. We have “national parked” ourselves out of the ability to drill for oil. People seem to always bring up the war when it comes to gas but no one every bring up the fact that we have not built a new refinery in 30 years. Currently, China is setting up oil rigs 60 miles off the coast of the US in a partnership with Cuba. Does it make any sense why China can drill so close to our shores but we can not? We have severely limited ourselves on where we can drill. We can not drill in ANWAR as we are affraid to harm the poor Carribu. I am all for protecting the environment but I would like to think in 2008, we have the ability to drill for oil and preserve the environment.

I think your coments on the preseident are basless and totally brought from emotion and not from thinking about what is causing the high gas prices.

If we don’t start beefing up our nations electrical infrastructure (read: build nuclear power plants) were gonna be screwed in the inevitable onslaught of the plug-in battery powered hybrid cars that Jeff Goldblum wants us to drive! How will you like being turned away from that “Free Universal Healthcare MRI appointment” you waited 18 months to get – because of a rolling blackout!
