Are The Beatles Overrated?

Beatles Suck?I was talking with this musician. He said he didn’t like the Beatles. He said that he only likes maybe 3 or 4 good songs from their entire catalog. Wing’s stuff included.

“They are overrated.” He said

I said.”What?”

“You heard me.”

I guess so.  I was practicing some selective hearing there. It always freaks me out when I hear that kind of thing. Only 3 good songs.  Very strange. (more…)

The Beatles – More Popular Than Jesus?

John Lennon told this reporter during an interview that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.  Well… people tripped.  Firestorm on bad boy John.

So, what about it?

“Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue with that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first – rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.”

Oh my… What are we gonna do about this? We got a problem folks.

Looks like this deal brought a lot of attention to Jesus actually. I was wondering if they are more popular than Jesus right now? Those cat’s are still very popular.  Their fan’s (followers?) are pehaps more closely followed than Jesus’s.

One day a emergent Christian leader posted “The Beatles had it right” on his facebook page wall.  What was he talking about?  I dunno.  My guess is he was referring to their message of love and peace.

Hey… I dig the Beatles, and I dig Jesus. Can’t we all just get along?

Lennon said he didn’t know which would go first. Rock and roll or Christianity.  But, they are both here to stay. Ya know?

Acid Music; Beatles Magical Mystery Tour

I have always thought that Magical Mystery Tour could have been recorded in the garage somewhere… Or some of it anyways… It’s not all that great of a recording.  Even though it is a great record over all…

George Martin has been hailed as such a great producer…And he was…But there are many other records from this period that have as good or better recordings.  The song “magical mystery tour” is paticarly noisy and muddy.

I remember back when the early Beatles CD’s first came out… They were all released in mono… To preserve the “original” recordings… They “fake stereo” vinyl records sound better.

Anyways, Magical has some magical music on it… I like the song “flying“… It is the picture of 60’s psychedelia… Love that trippy guitar.

The string arangements on “I am the Walarus” has to be the best in rock and roll. And that saxaphone (I think) playing on “Baby im a Rich Man” is the most bizarre horn part I have ever heard. That is Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones playing that… Miss that guy.

Other Highlighs

  • Hello Goodbuy – Great guitar line and simple lyrical message.
  • Your Mother Should Know – Dance to a song before your mother was born
  • Strawberry Fields Forever – Maybe the best John lennon Song ever.

I am here as you are here as we are all together – John Lennon
