Using Debt Cards at Restaurants. Risky?

So you go to a restaurant and you order some food for you and your date.

When the bill comes you simply give the waiter your debt card and they bring back a slip of paper for you to sign.

Balance $4512

Tip ______________

Tax $4.50

Total____________

Now you write in a tip and do the total and that is what should come out of your bank account right?

Not always... In fact the past 2 times I have eaten it has said something different when I check my account online. The tip was either wrong. Or I left the tip blank and left cash but a tip was taken out anyways.

So why the discrepancies? Confused

Then sometimes I’ll look at it a day or so later and the balance has changed once again…Either up or down… You just never know.  Guess Ill start taking cash to go out and eat because most of them won’t take a check either.

How risky is it to hand your debt or credit card to a waiter anyways? What is to stop them from writing down that number and then going shopping online when they get off work?

You guys be careful… Ya dig?
