I wrote a short post year ago about the Rolling Stones . Asking if they worship Satan or something. I remember when I was an early teen there used to be “tent revivals” and ministries run through town and talk about the evil of rock music. (more…)
I like theme song’s for TV show’s. They are well written and very catchy. One of my fave’s is the song for The Flintstones.
I just like The Flintstone’s. Even the one with the silly alien that came to be their friend. The Great Gazoo was his name… I think. He was always helping them out of trouble. Rather they wanted him to or not.
Anyways I was surfing the TV the other day and it happened to come on and I was checking out the theme song. I was following the the songs words.
Let’s ride with the family down the street. thoo tha la da da la ca ta ta eet.
What? Uh I didn’t quite get that?
Throo tha la da da la ca ta ta eet.
It’s one of those song’s ya know?
I just can’t seem to make out the words. This has been an issue of mine my ENTIRE LIFE! Knowing a song well… But there is a lyric in it I just can’t make out…I’ll think about it for a minute. Then it goes away and I don’t think about it anymore.
Then I hear the song again! I’m BACK.. What did he say?
Sure I could Google it. But what fun would that be? (Heck) Couldn’t help myself. Wait, I found the original theme song.
A Poll I got going. Is Fred Flintstone a Hipster? See left 🙂
Remember that groovy band Kiss… “Knights in Satan Service” Haha…I was a big fan when I was a kid. They were the first “shock rock” band I remember…They did songs about the good things in life… Sex!
They painted their faces and wore these cool costumes… They jumped around on stage and had fire and platforms and shiny drums. The bass player spit up blood and blew fire… It has been said they were the “hardest working band of all time”.
There band consisted of:
Cat
Star child
Vampire
Space Man
So where they the Kings in Satan Service? Or was this just a clever marketing publicity stunt? Perhaps the movement to label all rock music as “the devils” music came up with this and when Kiss heard it they simply didn’t deny it thinking it would sell a few more records.
Oh sure their songs about rock and roll lifestyle sex and God’s of Thunder was a bit over the top in the 70’s… Not even close to what these guys are singing about now… Come on now… Ever heard of the band Slayer?
Hey..Kiss is still rocking around out there.. Can you dig it?
I have always enjoyed “space sounding music… And I am guessing that Pink Floyd was the first to do it.. Or do it right… The first record…Piper at the gates of dawn is really a spacey sounding record… Campy too…
It was recorded at the same time as The Beatles Sgt Peppers lonely hearts club band. In my “hip opinion” it is a better record.
So the space music? Well listen to it… The opening song Astronomy Domine is just about as spacey as it gets…Then right into Intersteller Overdrive… Come on!?!
I heard Roger Waters say one tome that “nobody invented space music” Well, I dunno… His first guitar player Syd was certainly one of the first right? That guy is kinna a trip… A tortured genius…. But then Syd Barrett was on a whole other level…
Many people I have talked to over the years are into Pink Floyd.. The later stuff… I try to turn them on to the Barrett recordings but many consider it just too freaking “weird” It is that…. WAY out… In SPACE….
Ever wonder which guy in the Beatles is playing the guitar? They were all guitar players right? There seems to be some mixed opinions about this.
It has been known for years that Geogre Harrison brought in Eric Clapton to play the leads on While my Guitar Gently weeps during the White Album sessions. I have often wondered who else is playing on that record. They were really starting to get on each other’s nerves by then.
Well, I was just reading a Beatles magazine that my daughter brought home for me and it has a articla about the recording of the Revlover album. It seems that Harrison was struggling with the solo on “Taxman”. He goofed with it for a few hours and Gearge Martin suggested that Paul give it a try.
So apparently Paul plays the guitar solo on Taxman. A Harrison song.
It says also that Paul plays the solo for the Lennon song Good Morning on the Sgt Pepper album. Geeze….Who knew?
Guess you can learn something everyday. Especially when your kid brings home a magazine.
Well who do you think is the greatest band ever to exist? Ya know there are just so many to choose from it’s hard to tell. I think by far the greatest pop band there ever was is The Beatles.
They simply hit every range of music and have influenced coutless artists over the years. You want to learn about how to do music on your own? How to consturct songs? Listen to the Beatles first.
Some things the Beatles can teach you.
How to play percussion – In the times I have played with a band that had somebody playing percussion they usually didn’t know when to play and when not to play…They would simply shake something constantly throughout the entire song. If you listen to The Beatles who often used percussion, they didn’t do this but used the percussion to “build” a song.
How to sing and harmonize – I have heard people say “the Beatles can’t sing” Sorry…But your mistaken. They took pop singing to a new level.
How to construct songs – Verse, choirs, verse choirs, middle, verse choirs End. They simply had the system down to perfection. And they often expanded on these simple techniches and took it to new levels.
Various rhythm ideas – Like to strum a guitar? Just learning? Pay attention to the strumming techniches done on Beatles songs. The acoustic rhythms they did on so many songs is incredible. Different time signatures too.
Colorful Bass Playing – It’s amazing how much can be done with a bass on a song. Sure it can be overdone. But Paul did it to perfection.
Lyric Writing – From boy meets girl to girl loses boy to trippy kaleidoscope scenes, political revolution, drug craziness, religion, sexual orientation, comical storytelling. These guys did it all and more.
Studio Recording – Nobody had ever done the wacky stuff that they came up with in the studio. From fake stereo to delayed tape effects and backward guitars. Sure everybody does it now…They did it first.
Oh I could go on and on…But I’ll let ya disagree with me if ya want… Please, tell me why you HATE them guys…
