Hipster Christianity?
I saw a blogger post a Hipster Christianity quiz on Facebook. What did I do? Well, you KNOW I had to go ahead and take the quiz. Do I qualify?
NO
What? It told me I was only moderately hip or something. I don’t know what those guys are talkin’ bout… I’m VERY hip, thank ya very much.
As I was reading the questions I was tempted to take it again. I think I know now what the right answers would be to qualify me as a hipster, uh. religious dude. Yeah…Thats me
That blog is really nice over there. I tried to subscribe but it doesn’t seem to work. I know he’s at the top of Google for his term. I’m guessing the blog is to promote his book.
Hey man, if you stumble by this post you should get your feed working. I’d follow it. But then maybe a hipster is not so much into the “social networking” kinda thing.
Wait? He’s on Facebook too!
As I write this post I have been surfing the hip site. Now I think the quiz may have been right. Perhaps I’m just not as cool as I thought I was. He really lay’s it down about the Christian Hipster. I seem to have a lot to learn.
Hip Gear
- Trendy books
- Obscure Foreign films
- Layered clothes
- Vinyl records.
- Job at coffee shop
- Import Beer
- Paint brushes
- Vintage Polaroid camera
- Hookah
It just goes on and on… I don’t have much of that trendy stuff laying around. I got a bunch of cheap musical instruments tho. Does that count?
Hmm? I have my own Theology Quiz
I found it laying dormant in a dark corner of my server and pasted it in here. It hardly even works. It reminds me why I quit the web and flash design stuff. I just want to publish random silliness now.
So… Uh… Yeah.. Take the theology quiz.

What’s Wrong with Organized Religion?

- Image via Wikipedia
I hear it all the time; “ I don’t like organized religion”
They say “why is something that is supposed to be organized so un- organized”.
Tis true, I’m afraid. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to how organized the major religions are. And, because the tend to bicker with each other (and themselves) then many people are obviously turned off by this sort of thing.
With good reason…Who wants all that drama anyways?
Well, millions of people it seems. So given that kinda record there must be something to it right? To be completely against organized religeion is a bit silly. Millions of people look to it for hope an direction for life.
So are all these people weak? Or maybe in need of a “crutch” They can’t seem to find their own direction so they need something else to lean on? Or a book of rules to tell them how to live?
I don’t think so. Believing in something in my experience points to strength, not weakness. It is far easier for me to “let myself go” and do what I want rather than try to be obedient to some moral laws. It’s easy to simply do what feels good. - And trust me, I know how to do that
So, recently… I joined up. It’s all good, except I don’t get to sleep in till noon on Sundays anymore.

Top 10 Worldly Problems. Solutions?

- Image via Wikipedia
Well we all got problems don’t we? A quick surf of the net or a newscast on TV will abundantly confirm this.
I like to ponder stuff you know? I like to try and “figure it all out”. And wonder what a “Higher Power” should be doing about all this. He is supposed to be all powerful right? Can’t He fix this world that we humans have totally screwed up?
Or is it up to us? Religious people tend to be just trying to hold on until they get to the great by and by. Right? I mean, I have heard it said. “This is not our home, our home is in heaven”
Jesus is coming, right? Could be today! But, what if it’s not for another 50 millennia? Hey, that’s a long time. There’s gonna be a lot of generations of people that have to try and make due until they get to heaven. Meanwhile the world get’s worse.
Big Global Problems
- Hunger and malnutrition
- Climate Change
- Conflicts
- Financial instability
- Water and Sanitation
- Subsidies and Trade Barriers
- Population/migration
- Communicable diseases
- Education
- Governance and corruption
What a list. those are real problems. Who is gonna fix this mess?
I have heard Bible teachers say that this “fallen world is too far gone to be fixed. It will take a complete regeneration from God to fix this. ”
Maybe. But, perhaps talking about it would help to get ideas to give the Big Guy a hand in it. Most of us have children and grandchildren right? Each of us do our part?
I’m just a middle aged hipster. I probably got a few years before I go to the pearly gates. Perhaps, there is SOMETHING I could do to make a difference here and now. You dig?
Christian / Secular
Wassup? Well there has always been a dividing line between secular and christian music..You can go into any christian record store and find bands that “sound like” their secular counterpart:
So why not just go ahead and listen to the real thing?
Guess what? That’s what I do.
Do ya hipsters think there should be Slayer records right along side Amy Grant records?
Sure, why not? Perhaps you can study some Slayer and it’s very intense description and analysis on hell. And then not want to go there.
Beatle Spirituality
I have heard that “The Beatles had it right”
Wow, what a statement. It depends on the interpretation of the songs. Much music is very positive rather it’s “Christian” or not.
Why does there have to be this complete dividing line between Christian and secular pop culture? This has always been quite a puzzle for me.
Christians need to learn to just keep it real. Know what I’m sayin, Dude?
But then how long can I sit around and listen to slayer talk about complete blood baths’ and angels of death?
Come on guys’ Lighten up will ya?

Do All Religions Pray to the Same God?
Islams, Jews, Christians. Do they all worship the same God? That’s what President Bush was saying. Of course you know this is America and we do have “freedom of religion”. Thank God for that!
So what about it? I wrote about this in another post. I discuss the Christian doctrine of unmerited favor.
The above post does not get the traffic that this one does. So I thought I’d see what happens if I expand on it a bit.
I used to be rather dogmatic in my beliefs. Often trying to convert to my way of faith. Sometime I still do this. But is that necessarily a good thing to do? Check out more »
